Ostuni
Easily recognizable thanks to its white-painted houses, its narrow alleys and the wonderful seascapes, Ostuni sits on three hills and it has an old city center clustered atop high ground facing a valley lined with olive trees. The coastline, which stretches over as many as 20 kilometers (12.4 miles), is a dreamlike destination for summer vacations spent on charming beaches. Apulia's clear sea, which has often received the Blue Flag and Legambiente's Five Sails designations for its cleanliness, is only 6 kilometers (3.73 miles) away. After dark, Ostuni turns into a small village all lit up to reveal its picturesque and romantic side.
The land of the olive trees
The Salento region is famous for its olive trees, well known to those who, in the 16th century, built fortified manor houses to stop incursions by Saracenian pirates. Mentioned by Aristotle and protected by the Athenian constitution, the Salento's olive trees tell the tales of life and the passing of time, as some have been bent by the wind, or hit and torn to pieces by lightning, or they have just grown knotty and bent, smiley or pensive. The Masseria squeezes the olives, in the original press, to produce very high-quality extravirgin olive oil.
Manor houses
Conceived as defensive settlements against bandits and outlooks against the Saracens, manor houses turned, over time, first into independent agriculture production centers, and then into amazing accommodations facilities for travelers from around the world, of which Masseria Il Frantoio is a brilliant example: as an elegant boutique hotel created from a 17th-century Apulian farmhouse, this residence caters to those who love authentic things, firmly rooted in the past, yet featuring all the comforts of a charming hotel.

Surroundings

Masseria il Frantoio is located in the region known as Alto Salento, surrounded by the charming country by Ostuni, a few kilometers (miles) from the sea and from the Regional Park of “Dune Costiere”, between Torre Canne and Torre San Leonardo.

Masseria Il FrantoioLocated in the wonderful setting of a property that measures 72 hectares (178 acres) converted in 2004 to organic farm, Masseria il Frantoio invites you to experience an extraordinary stay: live in a real Apulian farmhouse, where nature reveals itself through the intense scent of wild herbs, the presence of animals and birds, and the quiet appearance of fireflies in the summer months.

Around the manor house, easy walking paths lead to the high ground that shields the farmland from the sirocco, giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing stroll, admiring immense stretches of olive trees, respected protagonists of the Salentine landscapes since the far 16th century.

Masseria Il FrantoioFrom the Masseria, you will be just a few minutes' drive from the beaches along the coast. At any time of the year, the area's mild climate allows for enjoyment of the Ostuni coast, evocative during the winter and irresistible in the summer, characterized by natural sand dunes or by the cliffs of the lighthouse of Torre Canne.
